Illumination Night Returns to Vermont College

(by Week of Dec. 17, 2008 - December 17, 2008)

Vermont College of Fine Arts has announced that they are reinstituting an old campus holiday tradition: Illumination Night, to be held this Thursday, December 18th, 2008. This tradition began 24 years ago and was initiated by Norwich University in celebration of the College’s Sesquicentennial year. It then became an annual event for the college and Montpelier community.
The evening begins with the annual lighting of the trees in front of Noble Hall at 5:30, and a carol singing procession to T.W. Wood Gallery in College Hall. The walkways are lined with candle-filled luminaries, adding to the festive atmosphere. In the Gallery there will be cookies and hot cider and music to recognize all winter holidays. All community members are invited, and VCFA staff and faculty welcome the chance to mix and mingle and celebrate their first holiday season as a new college and part of the Montpelier community.
Vermont College of Fine Arts is the first new independent college formed in Vermont in 23 years, and the only institution of its kind—a low-residency graduate school devoted exclusively to fine arts education.

I apologize if this comes across the wrong way, but I can't find any other way than this to submit a press release. I'm sorry if I missed it. I'm submitting this to all Vermont newspapers I can find, and I didn't want to leave you out. Keith Eldred FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Offbeat Fundraiser Calls Out Vermont's Secretary of State HOLLIDAYSBURG, PA - December 21, 2008 - A transplanted Vermonter has launched an offbeat fundraising effort that involves an open letter to Vermont's Secretary of State posted online on December 20. Since 1989, Keith Eldred, originally from Waterville, VT, has lived in Hollidaysburg, PA, whose claim to fame is that it's where the Slinky toy is made. A big part of his life is helping his wife, Janet, as she runs the local library. Eldred is currently trying to help the library as the administrator of a quirky fundraising effort called Mandy Green Project whose goals include helping make a household word of "mondegreen," referring to a mishearing of something said or sung. A well-known example is "all of the other reindeer" being misheard as "Olive, the other reindeer." As of December 20, the project's website, http://www.MandyGreenProject.com, has featured an open letter to Vermont's Secretary of State, Deborah L. Markowitz, asking that she officially declare Vermont the "Mountain Green State." The justification offered is that this reversal of "Green Mountain" offsets the often-questioned sequence of the French "Verd-Mont," commonly accepted as the origin of the name "Vermont." The inspiration for this request is that "Mountain Green" is a mondegreen of "mondegreen." Another mondegreen of "mondegreen" is "Mandy Green." The Mandy Green Project also hopes to attract comments from anyone named Mandy Green. The open letter was also emailed directly to Secretary Markowitz yesterday, December 20. She has yet to reply. About Mandy Green Project Mandy Green Project is an offbeat fundraising effort of the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library in Hollidaysburg, PA. Its centerpiece is a novel, "Gazoon High Twizzle" by Mandy Green, whose proceeds benefit the library. "Gazoon High Twizzle" is a mishearing of "Gesundheit Whistle," referring to a whistle in response to a sneeze. Such a mishearing of a phrase or lyric is called a mondegreen. The name "Mandy Green" is itself a mondegreen of "mondegreen."Secondary goals of the Mandy Green Project are promoting the practice of gesundheit whistling, increasing awareness of the word "mondegreen," and attracting comments from anyone named Mandy Green.
